I’m Neal O’Hara, and I invite you to explore my work–

I am a southwest-based painter exploring the space where the American West meets the unknown. My work blends traditional desert landscapes with subtle science fiction elements, creating scenes that feel both grounded and otherworldly.

I draw much of my inspiration from the deserts of southern Arizona—places where the light shifts endlessly and the vast openness carries a quiet sense of mystery. In these environments, I find a natural stage for storytelling. Lone figures, remote roads, and open horizons often appear in my work, suggesting moments where something just beyond ordinary experience might occur.

Before focusing on painting, I spent over three decades working as a professional artist, animator, and art director, creating visual work for entertainment, government, and higher education. That background continues to shape how I approach composition, atmosphere, and narrative, giving my paintings a cinematic quality.

Today, I focus on building a body of work that invites the viewer to pause—to step into a familiar landscape and sense that there is more to it than first appears. My paintings are held in private collections and are sought after by collectors interested in contemporary Western art with a distinctive and imaginative edge.
